Vocational Nurse Program (LVN)
Admission Requirements
Admission to vocational nursing program at Valley School of Allied Health (VSAH) is open to all applicants who meet the entrance
requirements regardless of age, sex, religion, and ethnic background.
To qualify for admission an applicant must:
- Speak, read and comprehend the English language.
- Be able to perform the physical duties required of a nurse.
- Communicate effectively.
- Display good interpersonal skills.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Must complete 12th grade, or possess a GED certificate, or the equivalency thereof.
- Pass VSAH's physical examination.
- Pass admission entrance test. This entrance test is equivalent to a GED test, or entrance exam into a college's freshman year.
- Write a one page article on "Why I want to be a Nurse". Type written or computer printed articles are not acceptable.
Surgical Technology
A Surgical Technologist is an allied health professional who works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologist, registered nurses,
and other surgical personnel delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after surgery. Some of their duties
include, safeguarding the sterile field, preparing the necessary instrumentation for the surgery, assisting the surgeon during the operative procedures,
applying surgical dressings to post-operation patients and sanitizing of decontaminated instruments.
Admission Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old at the start of the class.
- Must have completed High School or have a GED equivalent.
- Must have a valid Social Security Number.
- Must have successfully passed the entrance examination and interview given by the School.
- Must NOT have any physical or psychological impairment that could restrict performance in the
clinical activities and hinder the attainment of objectives.
Surgical Technology Course Outline
10-month program (1,120 hours)
I. Theory (Campus)
- Didactic class - 280 hours
- Laboratory - 200 hours
This part of the program covers all the basic sciences, which includes Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and
Principles of Aseptic Techniques. This preparatory education will provide the foundation of all the practices in the operating
room. It will also provide a basis for learning the professional and technical patient care issues that support patient throughout
the preoperative period.
II. Clinical (Affliate Hospital)
- Central Processing (Instrumentation) - 80 hours
- Clinical Externship (Rotation) - 560 hours
The students are taught the scrub role functions early in their preoperative experience and gain knowledge and skills in sterile
techniques. The program will also focus on scrubbing, gowning, gloving, instrumentation skills and scrub experience in all surgical
specialties. Student will also learn circulating experience under the supervision of registered OR nurses.
